About Vividh Bharati
Vividh Bharati is one of India’s oldest commercial radio services, launched on 3 October 1957 as part of All India Radio and broadcast in Hindi. It was built specifically to win back Indian listeners who had drifted toward Radio Ceylon, and it has been part of the country’s broadcasting landscape ever since.
The station no longer reaches listeners through short wave, after the Indian Government shut down its relay centers. Today it streams online, which is the only way to tune in. The stream runs in AAC format at 93 kbps, so it holds up reasonably well on a decent connection.
If you grew up with Hindi film music and the particular warmth of Doordarshan-era broadcasting, this is probably the station you remember. It streams free, and this page links directly to that stream.
