About BBC Radio 4
BBC Radio 4 is the UK’s national speech radio station, broadcasting news, drama, comedy, and documentary programming across the country and streaming free online at bbc.co.uk/radio4.
It’s the station people tend to have on in the background and actually listen to. The output runs the full range of spoken word: morning news programmes, afternoon plays, panel shows, investigative journalism, serialised fiction. There’s very little music. If you’re looking for a chart station, this isn’t it. If you want radio that treats its audience as adults who can follow a 45-minute drama or a long-form interview without a jingle every three minutes, this is probably what you’re after.
You can hear it on FM across the UK, on DAB digital radio, and through the BBC website and BBC Sounds app, all without paying anything beyond the licence fee. The stream is free to access worldwide.
