About WHUR 96.3 “Howard University Radio” Washington, DC
WHUR 96.3 is Howard University’s radio station in Washington, DC, broadcasting urban adult contemporary and streaming free online at whur.com.
The Howard University connection is the thing that sets this station apart. It sits inside one of the most historically significant Black universities in the country, and that shapes what it plays and how it sounds. Urban adult contemporary means smooth R&B, soul, and contemporary hits aimed at grown listeners, not the churn of a pure pop chart station. Think less morning zoo chaos, more consistent, polished programming for an adult audience that knows what it likes.
The online stream runs in AAC+ format at 48 kbps, which is on the lighter side but holds up fine for background listening. If you’re outside the DC area and landed here looking for the station, the website is whur.com.
